Tadhg McSweeney is an enigmatic seventy-something artist who has produced a significant oeuvre, yet to be discovered by the art world at large.
Educated briefly at NCAD Kildare St., Dublin 1959-60, McSweeney has exhibited in several one person and group exhibitions from 1965 onward. These include: RHA, Oireactas, Group 65 and Independent Artists. Portrait commissions during this period included Michele Hand, Dr. Philbin, Bishop of Down & Connor, Vanessa Clarke, Walter Smithwick, Dr. Frances Diffley, and others. He has lived and worked in Italy, San Francisco, London and West Cork, having studied and painted fresco as well as working in oils, watercolours and woodcuts. McSweeney has exhibited in Hamburg, Dublin, Wexford Opera Festival, Eigse Carlow and Claremorris Open Exhibition, Vanguard Gallery, Macroom and in the Mcbride Gallery, Killarney. Between 86 and 90 McSweeney featured in Bob Quinn's film "Pobal", for RTE, and in Vivienne Dick’s film "London Suite" for Channel 4. He also worked a in theatre project in Paris, Didjon and Lyon with Evelyne Didi.
