THE MCBRIDE GALLERY PRESENTS NEW WORKS FROM FIVE OF IRELAND'S FOREMOST ARTISTS

Rose Stapleton

Elizabeth Comerford

Cara Thorpe

Sahoko Blake

Angie Shanahan

An eclectic collection from five profile female Irish artists who each contribute a diverse background and practice to the discipline of painting will be exhibited at the Mcbride Gallery, Killarney during the month of October 2007. The exhibition opens on Friday 5th October, with a Reception at 7pm where all five artists will be present. This is the first time these artists have shown together in such an exhibition in Co. Kerry, and indeed, outside of Dublin.

Cara Thorpe recently won the coveted 2007 Golden Fleece Award. In 2004 she was Artist in Residence at Cill Rialaig Retreat, Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry and at the College of Art, Cyprus in 1999. Thorpe is well known for her challenging content and strict technical ability.

Sahoko Blake, originally from Tokyo, has exhibited extensively in Ireland since 1996. Her interpretation of the Irish landscapes has won her great acclaim in Ireland and at her many exhibitions abroad.

Elizabeth Comerford, a graduate of NCAD, has exhibited at six of the last seven Royal Hibernian Academy annual shows. Comerford’s media ranges from oil bar, oil pastel, chalk pastel to oil paint.

Angie Shanahan is a graduate of the Crawford College of Art & Design. Her practice involves work based on buildings and land which may exist in a transitory space, between dereliction and demolition.

Already there has been much interest shown in the collection of Rose Stapleton, whose works based on Gentlemans’ detached collars are unique.

This Group Exhibition from some of Ireland’s leading contemporary female artists is just one of a number of exhibitions which will introduce art collectors and enthusiasts to a wide range of leading contemporary Irish Artists (some of whom have not shown previously in the Kerry/Munster region).

Mcbride Gallery mails worldwide, accepts all major Credit Cards.
