GALLERY EXHIBITION CALENDER
Regine Bartsch
31st October 2008 - 27th November 2008
Opening Friday 31st October 2008
The Mcbride Gallery is delighted to present new works in a solo exhibiton by artist Regine Bartsch.
This exhibition shall be the second solo exhibition the Mcbride Gallery has held of Regine Bartsch's work.
In 2006, Regine Bartsch presented work which varied from landscape, interiors and still-life work in her distinctly unique style, which could be described as a joyous and emotive observational expressionism.
The exhibition was a sell-out and the artist received a number of commissions as a result.
Bridget Flannery: New Works
3rd October 2008 - 30th October 2008
The Mcbride Gallery, Killarney presents well established Irish painter Bridget Flannery’s most recent new works in an exhibition, opening Friday October 3rd, 2008 at 7pm.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue of works, with a foreword by a well-known Irish art critic. Broadcaster Marian Kelly from Dublin City fm show ‘Parlour Review’ will officially open the exhibition (Marian coincidentally comes from Killarney, and is a close friend of the artist). Please Find Encl. Detailed CV and images of work, Catalogue will follow.
Biography & Exhibitions
Bridget Flannery was born in Cork in 1959. Since graduating from the Crawford College of Art & Design, with a Diploma in Fine Art Painting & Printmaking in 1981, Bridget Flannery has held over twenty solo exhibitions throughout Ireland and Europe, including: Pigyard Gallery, Wexford; Cross Gallery, Dublin; RHA Ashford Gallery, Dublin; Vangard Gallery, Cork. She has consistently showed in group and selected exhibitions, as well as receiving considerable critical attention, with reviews of exhibitions by leading Irish art critics such as Aidan Dunne and Mark Ewart.
Paintings
Flannery’s work is regarded as high art. Experts, critics and writers extol Flannery’s accomplished and mature style and creative expression. Needless to say, new works are highly anticipated by loyal collectors.
Flannery's paintings are made with mixed media such as oil and acrylic on wood. Formally, the work may be described as the composition of abstracted, not objective, geometric and atmospheric, distilled forms. The work is informed by the artist’s creative conscious and subconscious processes - spiritual influences central to the balance of the work.
Critic’s Response
The silent elegance which Flannery’s works embody, have attracted much poetic descriptions. In this piece, Irish Times Art Critic Aidan Dunne, has written a holistic, spiritual response to Flannery’s work:
“Landscape, the sea, currents of feeling, the flavour and structure of poetry and music inform her painting. There is a lavishing, a generosity, an urge to put in everything that is interesting, valuable, cherished and perhaps everything ominous and anxious as well.
The painting is the space which can accommodate all of it, positive and negative. The urge to include is tempered by the need to exclude. The list of what must be left out grows as the painting develops. Only the eventual conclusions are there in the finished image, the duration and fallibility of the process are evident in the residual traces of making. These are not incidental, but integral to the finished work, embodying its history and conceptual density.” Aidan Dunne

Eileen has shown both in solo and group shows including the Arnotts portrait award exhibition, the Triskel Arts Centre, Cork, RHA, Dublin and the Vangard Gallery, Cork. She has received many commissions including a portrait of Cork playwright and novelist Cónal Creedon for the Crawford Gallery series of portraits of Irish writers by Irish artists. NEW WORKS BY FINOLA COONEY
In August, the Mcbride Gallery will present approximately 6-8 new works from painter Finola Cooney. Finola Cooney is essentially an abstract artist for whom landscape is essentially a starting point, or trigger for the creative process which follows as she develops colours, form and, notably, textures on paper and canvas. Her work derives partly from a deep impression left by landscape forms, textures and patterns, and the emotions evoked by them, the magical, almost subconscious impact of the half-obscured traces of the past which are left by people who are gone - just as "a spider dies and is gone but leaves its trace in the form of a broken web". Finola holds a BA (hons) in Modern languages in Literature, and has been painting since moving to the Beara Peninsula in 1991.

This selected group show may well be titled the ‘Limerick’ artists show, as all of the artists were either born, have lived or live in Limerick city and county. A common thread they each share would be the Limerick School of Art & Design, where Harper has headed the department of Fine Art.
Each artist is incredibly well collected and represented on the contemporary Irish art scene.

Tim Goulding & Helen Comerford
9th November 2007 - 6th December 2007
Joint Show
Tim Goulding
Helen Comerford
Artists Tim Goulding and Helen Comerford have been specifically selected to exhibit together. The processes and materials used in both artists work (e.g. encaustic wax, acrylic paint, abstraction of the visual field) promote a materiality and expression which has been carefully and personally developed by each artist. The works exist in a semi-conceptual while material space.
Both artists are established, and very well regarded. Their work features in many solo and group exhibitions, and private & public collections. Please see attached biographies file.
Helen Comerford takes her inspiration from themes such as the “The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz”, one of three manifestos connected with the Rosicrucian Brotherhood, written in the year 1459. This journey takes the form of a "spiritual diary" covering seven days, a journey of initiation and transformation, a true alchemical process that contains many layers of meaning as might be expected in such a document. This work for exhibit in November is an attempt at expressing the spirit of each of the seven days, starting with the first day, Saturday. This series is the fourth in this ongoing investigation. It also links in to Comerford’s Planetary series, another subject matter that she has been working on for some time. www.helencomerford.com
Tim Goulding interprets his experiences and sights on past journeys abroad, distilling his visual and perceptual memory into works such as “Field Trip” series, shown above. Tim Goulding’s recent works mark a dramatic new departure. Tim has journeyed extensively over the past few years and this can be seen with the vivid colours, the quality of light, and the experience of heat, the textures of old Buildings and walls and contact with other cultures, have had a profound impact upon Tim’s work. His work is more resolutely abstract, composed of bold, interlocking shapes; squares, oblongs and gentle curves, and a striking use of colour; soft grey-greens, greys and earthy tones combined with vivid eclectic blues, oranges reds and rust colours. THE MCBRIDE GALLERY PRESENTS NEW WORKS FROM FIVE OF IRELAND'S FOREMOST ARTISTS
Rose Stapleton
Elizabeth Comerford
Cara Thorpe
Sahoko Blake
Angie Shanahan
An eclectic collection from five profile female Irish artists who each contribute a diverse background and practice to the discipline of painting will be exhibited at the Mcbride Gallery, Killarney during the month of October 2007. The exhibition opens on Friday 5th October, with a Reception at 7pm where all five artists will be present. This is the first time these artists have shown together in such an exhibition in Co. Cara Thorpe recently won the coveted 2007 Golden Fleece Award. In 2004 she was Artist in Residence at Cill Rialaig Retreat, Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry and at the College of Art, Cyprus in 1999. Thorpe is well known for her challenging content and strict technical ability.
Sahoko Blake, originally from Tokyo, has exhibited extensively in Ireland since 1996. Her interpretation of the Irish landscapes has won her great acclaim in Ireland and at her many exhibitions abroad.
Elizabeth Comerford, a graduate of NCAD, has exhibited at six of the last seven Royal Hibernian Academy annual shows. Comerford’s media ranges from oil bar, oil pastel, chalk pastel to oil paint.
Angie Shanahan is a graduate of the Crawford College of Art & Design. Her practice involves work based on buildings and land which may exist in a transitory space, between dereliction and demolition.
Already there has been much interest shown in the collection of Rose Stapleton, whose works based on Gentlemans’ detached collars are unique.
This Group Exhibition from some of Ireland’s leading contemporary female artists is just one of a number of exhibitions which will introduce art collectors and enthusiasts to a wide range of leading contemporary Irish Artists (some of whom have not shown previously in the Kerry/Munster region).
